Faith in the Attorney-Client Relationship

A few years ago, an old friend from junior high reached out after more than twenty-five years. When I told him I was a criminal defense attorney, he said, "That's an important job; people's lives are in your hands." He was right. This work matters, and it only works when both the lawyer and the client place real faith in each other.

What Faith Really Means

People often treat faith like a simple belief. It is more than that. Faith shows up in what we trust, value, commit to, and are willing to stand behind with someone else. You cannot have faith alone any more than you can play baseball alone. It only works when it moves in both directions.

The Attorney Client Team

The attorney-client relationship is at its best when both sides trust each other to work toward the same goals.

The client trusts the attorney to fight hard, provide honest guidance, and protect their future. The attorney commits to doing exactly that and relies on the client to take the steps that strengthen the case.

The attorney should:
• Communicate clearly and when needed
• Help the client understand their situation and make informed decisions
• Explain what the client needs to do from day one

The client should:
• Be honest with the attorney
• Communicate clearly and when needed
• Follow through with the goals and tasks set by the team

How Stone River Law Builds That Faith

At Stone River Law, we know nobody can do everything alone, so we work as a true team. Our legal assistants and attorneys share the information they need to quickly and accurately answer client questions. Our systems make sure clients always know their court dates and what they need to complete. Communication is simple. Clients can reach us by text, phone, email, or in person.

This structure gives the attorney-client relationship the support it needs to work. It allows both sides to place faith in each other and stay focused on the ultimate goal: the best possible outcome for the client.
