Bradley Henderson (Brad) is a partner at Stone River Law in Layton, Utah. He represents clients in Utah criminal defense and military law matters. Brad has practiced law since 2005 and spent 12 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. His background includes prosecuting and supervising courts-martial, advising senior commanders, reviewing investigations, and handling military administrative matters.

Brad’s military background trained him to evaluate a case from more than one angle. During his Air Force service, he prosecuted courts-martial and supervised military justice programs at several levels of command. He also advised commanders when the available evidence did not tell the full story or when moving forward was not the right decision.

Twelve Years in the Air Force JAG Corps

Brad served on active duty in the Air Force JAG Corps from 2006 through 2018. His work included criminal law, administrative law, ethics, employment matters, government contracts, and regulatory compliance. He served in legal leadership roles at the installation, numbered-air-force, and major-command levels.

His assignments included Chief of Military Justice for Air Force Global Strike Command and the 9th Air Force, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for the 90th Missile Wing, and Chief of Adverse Actions and General Law for the 20th Air Force. In these positions, he advised senior commanders and helped guide legal offices handling difficult criminal and administrative matters.

Military Defense and Administrative Matters

Military cases can involve criminal exposure, career consequences and administrative action at the same time. Brad’s experience includes courts-martial, discharge proceedings, adverse actions and command-level decision-making. He understands the different roles commanders, investigators and military attorneys play, as well as the importance of addressing both the legal allegations and the client’s military future.

Courts-Martial Investigations and Administrative Actions

Brad prosecuted and directly supervised courts-martial involving drug offenses, sexual assault allegations, theft, fraud, false official statements, conduct unbecoming an officer, and other alleged misconduct. He also worked with administrative discharge boards, adverse actions, and preliminary investigations.

His responsibilities required careful review of the evidence and the available legal options. He advised nonlawyer commanders on whether a matter should be handled through administrative action, court-martial, or another response. He also served as a preliminary investigation hearing officer in cases involving allegations of fraud, fraternization, and extortion.

Command Level and Deployed Legal Experience

Brad served in Afghanistan and Iraq in addition to his assignments in the United States. In Afghanistan, he advised U.S. and NATO leadership on Afghan and international law. He worked with government officials to negotiate agreements and resolve legal disputes, including a tax dispute exceeding $300 million.

In Iraq, Brad reviewed evidence involving detained individuals and made recommendations about release, continued detention, or referral for prosecution. These assignments required him to assess complex facts, apply the law in high-pressure settings, and give decision-makers clear advice.

Military Legal Training

Brad’s professional training includes the Judge Advocate Staff Officer Course, Trial and Defense Advocacy Course, Special Victims Course, Operational Law Course, Administrative Law Course, and Army Ethics Course. He also completed professional military education through Squadron Officer School and Air Command and Staff College.
