Which Criminal Cases Are Filed in Farmington?
Utah district courts handle felony and Class A misdemeanor cases. District courts can also hear lower-level misdemeanor cases, although many Class B and Class C misdemeanor prosecutions are filed in justice courts.
Davis County felony prosecutions are filed in the Farmington District Court rather than the Layton District Court. An arrest in Layton or another Davis County city does not necessarily mean your case will be heard in that city.
Read the court name on your charging documents, summons, or hearing notice. The Farmington District Court and Davis County Justice Court are separate courts, even though their locations share the same street address.

Preparing for Your Court Appearance
Before your hearing:
- Confirm the date, time, court location, and courtroom.
- Check whether your appearance is in person or remote.
- Review the hearing instructions with your attorney.
- Bring your court notice and any documents your attorney has asked you to provide.
- Allow time for parking and courthouse security if appearing in person.
- Continue following all release conditions and existing court orders.
Do not assume that a hearing is canceled because negotiations are ongoing or because you have contacted an attorney. Confirm any change through your attorney or the court.

What if You Missed Court or Think You Have a Warrant?
Contact your attorney promptly. If you do not have an attorney, seek legal advice about the warrant, missed appearance, and available next steps.
An outstanding warrant can result in arrest. Having an attorney does not automatically cancel the warrant or prevent arrest. An attorney can help verify the case status and evaluate whether a motion, scheduled appearance, or another procedure is appropriate.
Do not assume that arriving at the courthouse without a scheduled hearing will resolve the issue.
